USDA's Big Oops!
A big “oops” for the USDA when an internal memo advocating Meatless Monday’s meets the press … I’m Susan Allen don’t miss today’s Open Range right after the break. Two on Tuesday, that is, "two servings of meat please", that’s my response (note the please) to an internal USDA newsletter that attempted to encourage USDA employees, to go vegetarian one day a week in order to reduce their environmental impact. The newsletter cited a U.N. study, the the very one many scientists have blown holes through, that blamed animal agriculture as a major source of greenhouse gases and climate change. This from a department that claims to support America’s farmers? The agency removed the posting several hours after the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association called them to the table denouncing the newsletter and USDA spokewoman Cortney Rowe stated in a press releases that "the department does not endorse the global “Meatless Monday” initiative”. Really? The USDA is obviously influenced or infiltrated (whatever you’d prefer to call it)by extreme animal activist groups that aggressively advocate Meatless Monday. "Oh my,"! Agriculture blogs were buzzing, some comments I saw:. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, “a slap in the face of the people who every day are working to make sure we have food on the table to say ‘Don’t eat their product once a week.’ ”other’s …”shame on the USDA I will eat more meat on Monday to compensate” .” USDA Meatless Monday’s, at the Department of Agriculture?. Heresy! I’m not grazing there. Ill have the double rib-eye Monday instead!”
