7-18 SS Look Behind

7-18 SS Look Behind

When you’re hunting always look behind you.

Today our old friend and regular correspondent to the shell, ex Fish and Game official from Montana, Ed Bangs, tells us about a hunting story last winter. But it is more than just harvesting an animal. There is a very good tip that Ed shares with us that you might want to remember.  “Bo Hunt more than I had any other way that I did end up shooting 2 whitetails with my rifle just for meat, but it was one of those perfect days where fresh snowfall, the snow had packed up a little bit so I was out hunting, went out hunting and came back and there were fresh footprints from a wolf pack and had crossed my tracks so they were right near me. So I was hiking down this road and you always look behind you. If you only look where you’re going and you turn around the view is completely strange to you. So it’s easy to get lost. I always tell people to look behind them, walk, look behind you, walk and I actually shot one of my deer doing that. Walk, sneak I look behind me, and they’re a doe walked out at about 100 yards and I shot her for meat, she was not very far from the truck so it was an easy pack then the other deer was hiking along a closed road in the snow, just kind of walking, stopping, looking and I was standing by a tree and I saw this little box about 100 yards from me and I shot him. He was a mile pack to the truck. So not bad at all. Both of them are in the freezer now, I cut  them up by myself, in fact I had some dear the day before yesterday, it was a hamburger and it was delicious.
