Missy the Mule "Kicks Off " Home for Every Horse Program
I believe it will take the horse community uniting in force; meaning the breed organizations, product manufactures, numerous disciplines and sports working together in order to have a true impact in helping our nations unwanted equines. One Horse At A Time is the motto for groups like Tractor Supply Company, Purina Mills , The Equine Network who publishes a host of horse magazines and the American Horse Council. They've pooled resources to develop the program that kicked off in December called A Home For Every Horse. It’s a Craigslist of sorts where horse owners and non-profit rescue organizations can post horses for free on Equine.com the go to web site for more than 1.5 million horse owners. And the first horse to be placed using this service wasn’t a horse at all but a mule named Missy. Missy the striking mule with four white stocking was rescued from the kill pen by the co-founders of Pure Thoughts Horse Rescue in Florida for retraining but soon found “striking” was an understatement after Missy kicked at all prospective adopters visiting their farm yet after a few weeks on the new equine.com web site Missy found a home with couple experienced in dealing with mule behavior issues. Being the first adoptee of the Home For Every Horse program now backed by so many influencers in the equine industry was not only quite an honor for Missy the Mule but perfect for the new foundation.
