6.5 Million Acres of CRP lands are in danger of disappearing as wildlife habitat acres but if you and I get busy we can help insure they won’t.  Stay tuned for  Open Range. This fall over 6 million acres are set to expire from their CRP contracts. Why do we care? CRP provides critical habitat not only for upland and water fowl but all wildlife that benefit from lands left undisturbed. The US Department of Ag just announced a new CRP General sign up and it’s critical for you and I to make sure that our friends that farm and ranch are aware the deadline is around the corner, Monday March 12 through Friday April 6th.. . CRP contracts are ranked according to the Environmental Benefits Index .USDA’s Farm Service Agency collects data for each of the EBI factors based on the relative environmental benefits for the land offered. Each eligible offer is ranked in comparison to all other offers and selections are then  made from that ranking. EBI rankings will use the same factors as the 2011 signup and The USDA has said there is no current acre target for this signup, so if any of you are or know of  landowners with an interest in enrollment check get to your  local USDA Service Centerand check out your options as soon as possible. CRP has grown over the last 25 years due to support from ranchers, conservationists, hunters, fishermen and other outdoor sports enthusiasts. Insuring we maintain adequate CRP preserves critical habitat for wildlife.
