Tilth Producers Farmers of the Year Award
Washington Ag Today November 24, 2011 Tilth Producers of Washington named Eric and Sheryl Zakarison “Farmers of the Year” at their recent 2011 annual conference held in Yakima. The Zakarisons operate Zakarison Partnership in Pullman. The family works to integrate organic practices across their 13-hundred acres in a conventional farming area. Also honored at the Tilth meeting was Colleen Donovan of Washington State University’s Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources. She received the Advocate of the Year Award. Donovan currently leads the Farmers Market Research Project at WSU Small Farms Program. She was selected for her uncanny ability to connect farmers and resources. Tilth Producers of Washington has a membership of more than 500 Washington growers and businesses. Now this from Stockland Livestock. This is Jack McQuinness at Stockland Livestock in Davenport. We had 13-hundred cattle at our sale here Monday. Cows and bulls started higher again. We were in the mid-60s on the best of the cows. Up in the high 60s low 70s on the best of the big heavy beef bulls. Feeder cattle a couple of dollars higher. Had a couple loads of weaned steer calves weighing in the low six going out at $1.40. So we are optimistic about the market. We sell cattle here every Monday. Another big special feeder sale on December 5th and a stock cow sale on December 10th. Thanks Jack. I’m Bob Hoff and that’s Washington Ag Today on Northwest Aginfo Net.
