The governor again on the budget
Washington Ag Today November 22, 2011 Some of the recommendations Governor Chris Gregoire had in her draft supplemental budget proposal that impact agriculture are contained in the final budget package she put out Monday. The governor’s final recommendations include elimination of fair prize money during the 2011-13 biennium except for community and youth fairs. Conservation Commission administrative and operation grants to local districts are reduced 28 percent to encourage conservation districts to pursue local assessments. Among Gregoire’s revenue raising suggestions is one to limit the B&O tax preference for meat processors and fruit and vegetable processors. State lawmakers will gather in special session next week to address a 1.4 billion dollar deficit. Now the Stockland Livestock Report. This is Jack McQuiness at Stockland Livestock in Davenport. 13-hundred cattle on the market Monday. Cows and bulls two to three and in some instances up to four higher. Cows as high as 67 dollars for the high yielding kind. Bulls same story there. Getting up to the 70 dollar mark on the better bulls. Feeder cattle two to three higher. First sizeable showing of weaned calves. Call that two to three higher. Some 640 pound steer calves going out at $1.40 consigned by Entman’s down south of us here. Thanks Jack.
