Pear Recipe

Pear Recipe. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. It's pear time and according to Christie Mather, Director of Communications for Pear Bureau Northwest, it is also time to create a great recipe using northwest pears and you just might win a great prize. MATHER: The Pacific Northwest Spa Getaway is the prize we are putting out for our consumer recipe contest we are doing with Epicurious.com. The winner gets to get a trip out to pear country and this year it's taking the form of a 2-nights stay at the Allison Inn & Spa in the Dundee Hills. I love fresh pears and have even tried one on the grill which was awesome but in addition to some great recipes, Mather says education is very important as well. MATHER: That's one of the things that we're using this contest for is to educate consumers about the varieties and versatility of pears in the kitchen for home cooks. One thing that's great about this contest, it's not just a contest where you go to the website and say 'oh I have a recipe, I'll send it;' whether or not they enter the contest they're going to learn everything they need to know about how to create a great pear recipe. The contest has been up and running since September but the deadline is quickly approaching. MATHER: The deadline for entries is November 7. We're going to take 2 weeks to judge the recipes and then we're going to come back online with Epicurious to promote the top 3 winning recipes starting November 23.
