Wildfire Strategies, Cattle Killings & Rough Start

Wildfire Strategies, Cattle Killings & Rough Start. I'm Greg Martin with today's Northwest Report. Multiple law enforcement agencies in Idaho have teamed up to find those responsible for what they're calling one of the most brutal cattle killings they've seen. The shooting of these cows started sometime mid-April, and now Gem County authorities are beefing up patrols in the area, and hoping a reward will help bring the person, or persons responsible to justice. The Obama Administration's approach to production agriculture and the next farm bill came under fire Wednesday in the kick-off to work on the 2012 Farm Bill. Top House Ag Republican Frank Lucas derided USDA for proposing cuts in key farm programs - while stressing broadband, biofuels, regional food system supply chains, forest restoration and ecosystem market incentives. LUCAS: Are those really the primary issues where the administration is going to go in this next farm bill? Are you talking about turning rural America into a bedroom community? The Secretaries of Agriculture, Homeland Security, and Interior have announced the formation of a federal partnership with state, regional, local and tribal leaders to develop the Cohesive Wildfire Management Strategy to more effectively address America's wildland fire challenges. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said the Council's partnerships are key to the establishment of a national, intergovernmental wildfire policy that will ensure the safety of our firefighters and the citizens they protect as we confront longer and more intense fire seasons in more regions of the country. Now here's today's Washington Grange Report. (GRANGE) That's today's Northwest Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
