Green Revolution Part 4

Green Revolution Part 4

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. Today we conclude the discussion of how the wine industry is participating in the green revolution.

All week long I have been talking about the attention which the wine industry has given to the effects of the industry on the environment. Most of all, I want to emphasize that this has been a long and ongoing topic for the wine industry. Quite long before it became a fashionable concern for brides at their weddings. The wine industry has been pursuing and practicing responsible agriculture for many, many, years and have often been leaders in the area. Did you realize that most wineries employ sustainable agriculture but they dont bother to advertise it on the label. They simply sleep better knowing it is the right thing to do. When it comes to packaging of their products they are always looking for innovative ways to package with the least amount of impact to the environment. I left you yesterday with the question - When will we (as consumers) be ready to support the wine industry in their efforts to go green? I mean are we ready to accept that a wine that is not in a dark thick extra heavy glass bottle could actually be worth over fifty or one hundred dollars? Would we still pay fifty dollars if the bottle was less imposing and lighter? Or would our egos and our self doubts creep in an overtake our common sense? Could we actually believe that the wine from a box could be just as good as a wine from a bottle and could we bring ourselves to pay more for a box of wine? Could we actually get behind the wine industry and support their efforts to sustain our planet? Email your thoughts to linda at vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today’s Vine to Wine.
