Sandy Ride

Sandy Ride

Temptation is usually a short ride to trouble. I'm Jeff Keane; I'll be back after this quick break to give you an example.Temptation has meant trouble for humans since the beginning of time. To say our friend, Loye Wayne is only human is enough to say to explain the reason for his troubles one hot July day. Yearling cattle were being gathered from our dry range to be shipped to greener pastures. My brother, Dane and Loye Wayne were paired together moving steers down a canyon to the corrals. This undersized valley has only a minimum of decent trees, but it does have its full quota of brush and July made sure it contributed plenty of heat. The only redeeming quality to this canyon is an intermittent rocky, puny-sized stream that was definitely tempting Loye with its assumed coolness. He suggested to brother Dane that they should take a quick cool-off the next place the creek came up out of the ground. Dane declined to second the motion and said it wasn't a good idea anyway. Loye advanced his agenda without a second and at the next decent amount of water, temptation got the upper hand and he got off his horse and rolled into the inviting coolness. Loye said the water was fine and told Dane to come on, but Dane denied again and repeated it wasn't a good idea. It wasn't until Loye got back on his horse he realized the little bit of sand in the creek bottom filtered into his pants and turned his saddle into a power sander. Loye didn't ride for two days and Dane only giggled. They say misery loves company; I wonder how Dane knew it wasn't a good idea. I'm Jeff Keane.
