05/08/08 Summer Reading p4

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran. You know the vacation season is upon us and this week we have been discussing our summer reading lists with wine and food in mind. Today is food and wine pairing day so I thought I would recommend some cook books that also make for good reading. Although you may not consider reading cookbooks as fun or as a credible addition to your summer reading list, I would ask that you first read through a few of these books and see you don't change your mind. One of my favorite cookbooks tells the story of a woman who goes to France to be the cook at a Chateau. The book chronicles her four season's of cooking and the relationship she builds with the elderly gardener of the property. It is titled The Cook and the Gardener by Amanda Hesser. Next, consider The Good Food of Italy, Region by Region the author is Claudia Roden and she writes a very nice and lengthy introduction to each section of terrific region recipes and even discusses the regional wines. A book similar to that only about Spain is The Foods & Wines of Spain by Penelope Cassas. If you are very interested in understanding the pairing of food and wine along with great recipes, check out the book famed Chef Jon Ash did in conjunction with Fetzer Vineyards titled "From the Earth to the Table". Join me tomorrow as we conclude the week's discussion of my recommendations for your summer reading list with wine in mind and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
