Washington Ag November 26, 2007 Washington cattle producers have the opportunity to attend something called the Cattlemen's Boot Camp. Sheila Stannard of the American Angus Association says the breed association has been working with Washington State University to put on the two-day event January 3rd and 4th.
Stannard: "And it is for all cattle producers, new cattle producers, experienced cattle producers. We look at all various segments of cattle production. We look at nutrition, reproduction, marketing, breeding and the end product where we will be actually in a meats lab looking at a couple of different carcasses and compare the quality and economic differences of the carcasses."
Stannard says the cost for the Boot Camp which is being held in Pullman, is $75.
Stannard: "And you just need to contact the American Angus Association to register. That fee covers all of your meals while you are there as well as all the materials we provide to the producers who attend."
Rooms are available at the Holiday Inn Express in Pullman at a negotiated rate until December 19th.
Nearly 180 bulls have been entered in the annual WSU-Washington Cattlemen's Association annual bull test at the research center at Prosser. The test, now in its 15th year, puts the bulls on a diet designed to permit bulls to express their genetic potential while ensuring they will be sound and ready to go to work for their buyers at the sale March 26th 2008.
