Washington Ag November 2, 2007 The Agricultural Ambassador Award was presented to Heather Hansen, Executive Director of Washington Friends of Farms & Forests, during the recent joint meeting with Oregonians for Food and Shelter. The award was presented by Jay Vroom, President and CEO of CropLife America, of Washington, DC. Hansen was honored for speaking out in support of agriculture.
Hansen: "It always feels good to be honored by people you work with. I was nominated by some other folks in the industry and I really appreciate their support."
Jay Vroom of CropLife America also spoke at the meeting and Hansen says attendees heard that many of the issues CropLife works on in Washington D.C. are the same facing crop chemical users here.
Hansen: "Their top two issues are the Endangered Species Act and the Clean Water Act. I think those are probably the top two issues for a lot of farmers and foresters out here too. They are also concerned about spray drift issues, environmental health as well as farm worker health when it comes to pesticide use."
Washington Friends of Farms & Forests serves as a resource and advocate for pest management issues.
