More scholarship dollars available. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
The number and types of scholarships available from the Washington Apple Education Foundation continue to grow. WAEF's Director Jennifer Witherbee recently announced 2 more scholarship additions.
WITHERBEE: Well Olympic Fruit Company decided that they too would like to join many of the other companies that are awarding scholarships through the Washington Apple Education Foundation and now have a $1000 scholarship that is now available through the Washington Apple Education Foundation and students that are the children of Olympic Fruit growers, employees or employees themselves of Olympic Fruit can complete that scholarship application.
Deadline for that scholarship is March 1st. Besides the Olympic Fruit scholarship, a new scholarship in honor of Gary Gavin Sr., a long time member of the Michelsen Packaging Company family and innovator in fruit product packaging, has been established.
WITHERBEE: They decided that to honor his memory, they wanted to create a scholarship and help a young person from the industry. The scholarship is a $5000 award and it will assist a student for 4 years.
Each scholarship has certain stipulations but Witherbee says by visiting their web site and filling out the master application, students may qualify for more than one scholarship.
