A Valentine for a Pink Lady. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.
Valentine's Day is fast approaching and have you thought of what you'll give your loved one this year? How about a bag of apples? Alan Taylor, Pink Lady America marketing director says it's a natural tie-in.
TAYLOR: Well I think it's kind of a natural thing with Pink Lady being pink and Valentine's Day having quite a number of elements that are colorful and certainly pink is one of the major colors that we see promoted in various parts of that holiday and so we think Pink Lady is a natural for that kind of promotional opportunity.
Like giving sweets for the holiday, Taylor says that the Pink Lady is naturally a sweet treat.
TAYLOR: Its sweet tart flavor is another element that people seem to really enjoy. It's a good apple for eating fresh out of hand and good for cooking.
Pink Lady America is currently working with retailers to market the apples for the holiday.
TAYLOR: One of the major promotions that is going on in one of the larger supermarket chains involves the sale of Pink Lady bags so the consumer has the option of picking up a whole bag of Pink Lady's and it's got the flowing heart logo on it prominently displayed which is another great tie-in for Valentine's Day so we think it makes a really great gift better than flowers that may wilt within a few hours.
