Peach Trees Coming Out and USDA Tariff Relief

**California peach growers are removing hundreds of thousands of trees after the closure of Del Monte canning facilities left farmers without a major buyer.

According to Fortune magazine, one Del Monte plant had processed roughly 30% of California’s cling peach crop.

Growers expect about 420,000 peach trees to be destroyed as producers reduce acreage to limit future losses.

Some farmers say they may shift acreage to almonds or crops with stronger market opportunities.

##Alabama FarmPAC, the grassroots political action committee of the Alabama Farmers Federation, announced its endorsement of Barry Moore for U.S. Senate.

Moore will be on the June 16 ballot during a Republican primary runoff election.

Federation President Jimmy Parnell said Moore’s strong track record supporting farmers and rural Alabama spoke volumes to FarmPAC trustees.

Moore is a committed Christian conservative, who has served the interests of south Alabama in Congress since 2020.

**The USDA continues to evaluate possible tariff relief options for farmers impacted by trade disputes and rising production costs.

A USDA report says the department has been analyzing potential assistance measures as farmers face weaker export demand and higher costs for machinery, fertilizer and fuel.

Ag Secretary Brooke Rollins previously said aid discussions were underway alongside negotiations involving Chinese ag purchases.

Farm organizations say uncertainty surrounding tariffs has complicated long-term planning.

**The Agricultural Retailers Association expressed strong support for HR 8870, the BUILD America 250 Act, long-term surface transportation egislation.

The reliability of that link depends on a modern transportation system, safe roads and bridges, qualified commercial drivers, and federal rules that reflect the realities of agricultural freight.
