Newhouse to Chair Ag Subcommittee
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse will spend his final term in office as Chair of the House Subcommittee on Forestry and Horticulture.Newhouse says he’s excited to take the gavel and thanked Ag Chair GT Thompson for selecting him to fill the role even though circumstances around this are not the best …
NEWHOUSE … “My good friend Doug LaMalfa passed away here in January, as you know, who held that gavel. And so, it’s certainly sad to miss and lose him, but literally and figuratively I have some very big shoes to fill. He was a big, tall guy and did a great job with the subcommittee.”
But Newhouse says this is a great opportunity …
NEWHOUSE … “The subcommittee is on forestry and horticulture which is the perfect fit for Central Washington and I’m very excited about continuing Doug’s work and moving forward with some of the priorities that we and Republicans on the agriculture committee have been working hard for.”
And the work, Newhouse says should have an impact on northwest growers …
NEWHOUSE … “We’re going to start the markup of the Farm Bill 2.0, I guess you could call it. Two of the biggest titles there certainly forestry and horticulture and so we’ll be right up front with some very important issues not only for the country but for Central Washington. So, excited about that as well.”
As he said, the late Representative Doug LaMalfa of California chaired the Subcommittee before he passed away on January 6th.
Newhouse says it’s truly a privilege to receive the gavel for the Forestry and Horticulture Subcommittee.
