10/19/06 Apple Scholarship Applications

Time to apply for Apple Scholarships. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. The Washington Apple Education Foundation Universal Scholarship Application are now in the hands of high school counselors. Jennifer Witherbee is the Executive Director. WITHERBEE: One of the primary purposes was to provide educational opportunities for tree fruit industry young people and tree fruit industry young people are those whose parents are employed in the industry and also sometimes referred to those who have been raised in a tree fruit industry community. In total, WAEF anticipates awarding approximately $150,000 to students next spring on behalf of Washington's tree fruit industry. WITHERBEE: It's amazing the generosity of the tree fruit industry. It's exciting to be able to administer $150,000 in awards. The students we get to work with a really exceptional young people. Awards are open to current college students and graduating high school seniors. Students must return the completed application with all attachments no later than March 1, 2007 to qualify for awards. WITHERBEE: We will still continue to add awards to that application. Students that maybe look at the application and think I don't qualify for any of the awards right now coming back in a couple of months and checking on our web site again you'll see that there have been new awards added. A description of all charitable activities and more information can be found at www.waef.org. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
