10/20/06 Learning about biodiesel

Learning about biodiesel. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. If you have been considering the notion of converting your operation to biodiesel, the people at Alcoa have something you might be interested in. BAXTER: We're going to have some folks that will demonstrating; it will be a hands on process of actually making biodiesel. That's Jim Baxter, Public Relations Director with Alcoa talking about the upcoming Biodiesel Training and Demonstration funded by Alcoa. BAXTER: Monday, October 23rd at the Wenatchee Confluence Technical Center, that's at 285 Technology Center Way in Wenatchee, Washington. 8:30 is registration, 9 o'clock introductions and then the basics at 9:15 Biodiesel vs. Diesel. According to Baxter, the Alcoa Foundation spends considerable dollars each year for environmental education. BAXTER: In Washington State, we applied for a 50 thousand dollar grant to do some education around the production of biodiesel. In 2 counties Alcoa has aluminum production facilities, in Whatcom County and in Chelan County. So this foundation grant will be taking those 2 counties and it's all just taking a look at the environment and what can we be doing differently. The seminar is free and open to the public but Baxter says you must RSVP by calling 509-663-9246. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
