**America’s top agricultural groups reacted to the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans issued by the USDA and Department of Health and Human Services.

The Guidelines nearly double the recommended amount of protein intake, which pleases National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Vice President, Kim Brackett who says they help families make the best decisions when shopping for nutrient-rich protein.

A National Potato Council statement says to see the dietary guidelines now celebrate America’s favorite vegetable represents amazing progress.

**The USDA’s Economic Research Service said 13.7% of U.S. households were food insecure in 2024, making it difficult to provide enough food with a lack of resources.

The prevalence of food insecurity was similar to the 13.5% of households in 2023 and the 12.8% in 2022.

In 2024, 5.4% of U.S. households had very low food security,

similar to the 5.1% in both 2022 and 23.

**U.S. farmers are facing one of the widest gaps between what they pay to produce food and what they earn from selling it.

USDA data shows that by October 2025, the prices paid index climbed to 154.6, while the prices received index fell to 120.5.

USDA measured that against 2011 levels, set at 100, which means production costs were over 50% higher than 2011, while prices received were only 21% higher.
