Record Value for California Ag Production and U.S. India Trade Talks
From the Ag Information Network, this is your Agribusiness Update.**The value of California’s ag production hit a record high last year, according to data from the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
In 2024, farmers and ranchers in the Golden State produced $61.2 billion worth of agricultural commodities, an increase of 3.6% from 2023.
The state’s top ag commodities, ranked by economic value, were dairy followed by almonds, grapes, cattle and calves, lettuce, strawberries, pistachios, tomatoes, carrots and broilers.
**In defense of states’ rights, American agricultural sovereignty, and animal welfare, 14 House Republicans sent a letter to Ag Committee Chairman G.T. Thompson, of Pennsylvania, urging him to exclude the Save Our Bacon Act from any Farm Bill being considered.
The SOB Act, formerly known as the EATS Act, would federally override state laws regulating certain types of agriculture, including in-state sale standards for pork that require sourcing from farms that meet basic animal housing requirements.
**The U.S. and India are stepping up talks to resolve their trade tensions, with two separate teams of officials meeting in New Delhi last week, according to a Bloomberg report.
The meeting between the trade teams is expected to decide the future course of India-U.S. negotiations.
The two sides are seeking to resolve their differences after the U.S. slapped India with a 50% tariff last month, the highest in Asia.
