From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. Payments from the Marketing Assistance for Specialty Crops program are currently being made to growers, but there are other relief programs in effect.

Northwest Horticultural Council Vice President, Riley Bushue says the Supplemental Disaster Relief Program, aims at helping producers hit by extreme weather …

BUSHUE … “Right, it can and that one’s a live and active one right now too. They just announced that last week, I believe it was now, and there’s roughly $16 billion that they’ve put into that program. That was appropriated by Congress, the disaster funding back in December.”

So, Bushue says if you feel like this might apply to you …

BUSHUE … “That’s specifically focused on losses growers had related to specific disasters, like you said, whether it’s drought, freeze, wind, heat from 2023 or 2024. And that’s one where they really do need to just get in touch with their local county FSA office on the specific eligibility details and kind of what they need to do.”

And we have seen some weather extremes in the past few years …

BUSHUE … “This will cover the 2023 cherry season which was, as you may recall, not a good season. It was kind of weather-driven market losses.”

Bushue says USDA announced a second round of disaster aid that should be up and running by mid-September. So, contact your FSA office for more.
