Cherries Are Coming 2025 Pt 2
From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. With a 9% increase over last year, and harvest just days away, Northwest Cherry growers are feeling pretty good about this year’s estimates.Northwest Cherries’ Director of Domestic Promotions, Karley Lange says the weather cooperated this year …
LANGE … “Yes, Mother Nature has been kind to us this year.”
As for the quality of this year’s fruit, Lange says it should be good …
LANGE … “I think we’re going to see a lot of the same sizing that we saw last year. That’s what I’ve been hearing. So, just more fruit hopefully, and the quality is going to be there. So, it’s looking good.”
As for the timing with California cherries, Lange says much better …
LANGE … “Yeah, so unlike 2023, that was a disaster with the overlap. But this year, California’s crop seems to be getting smaller and smaller, and I think the transition is just going to be very smooth. California will just fade out and the Northwest will come right in. Should be very smooth.”
Unlike, Lange says what we saw the past few years …
LANGE … “Yeah, the cherry growers have really had a rough four years. I mean, honestly, the last four years have just been brutal for them.”
Which has growers smiling …
LANGE … “This year, I think their attitude is much more positive. I think this is something that we really needed as an industry. So, I really think going to kind of boost everything and usually when the growers are happy then everybody else is happy and we just keep moving along.”
