Cherries Are Coming 2025 Pt 1
From the Ag Information Network, this is today’s Fruit Grower Report. If you love sweet cherries, this is probably going to be a very good year for you and the growers who are all set to begin harvest.Karley Lange, Domestic Promotions Director at Northwest Cherries says things are looking good …
LANGE … “This year, based on the five-state estimate that the growers came out with at the Five State Meeting last week, we are looking at a crop of 21.4 million (boxes). Last year we had a crop of 19.5 million boxes.”
Which, Lange says isn’t bad, but …
LANGE … “This year, everything is looking great. Last year, our numbers were slightly down due to a freeze that we saw in January and that impacted many of the higher-elevation orchards. This year, all the fruit has come back in those orchards, and everything is looking really good.”
That, Lange says is encouraging …
LANGE … “We just had our Cherry Marketing Committee Meeting yesterday and heard from several growers there. And they are very optimistic and very happy with how everything is looking right now.”
So, Lange asks, what’s not to like about this year’s crop? …
LANGE … “There’s not too heavy of a set. Everything is very evenly distributed throughout the trees, which makes great, you know, growing practices for larger fruit. And we’re just very happy that we’re finally getting the season we needed.”
Tune in tomorrow for more on this year’s Northwest Cherry crop and the challenges growers have faced.
