The Southern Peanut Farmers Federation is growing. The organization, originally founded in 1998 by peanut groups in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia, has officially welcomed the South Carolina Peanut Board as its newest member. Mississippi joined the Federation in 2008, and now with South Carolina on board, the Federation represents peanut producers in five key Southeastern states.

Together, farmers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and South Carolina are responsible for producing 73 percent of the nation’s peanuts. In 2024, growers in those five states averaged an impressive 3,560 pounds per acre.

Richard Rentz, chairman of the South Carolina Peanut Board, called joining SPFF a step toward unifying the peanut industry, while Georgia Peanut Commission Chairman Joe Boddiford says the expanded partnership strengthens advocacy and collaboration on key industry issues.

The Federation leads efforts like the Southern Peanut Growers Conference, the Peanut Leadership Academy, and research initiatives. It also publishes the Southeastern Peanut Farmer magazine. Learn more at southernpeanutfarmers.org.
