California Farm Bureau President Shannon Douglass is calling for urgent action to support California farmers and ranchers, emphasizing the need to ease regulatory burdens, invest in water management, and sustain small and mid-sized farms. Speaking on behalf of the California Agricultural Coalition during a late-March press conference at the California State Capitol, Douglass was joined by Michael Miiller of the California Association of Winegrape Growers and Roger Isom of the California Cotton Ginners & Growers Association and Western Tree Nut Association.

Douglass highlighted the loss of 15,000 farms in the past decade and a 1,400% rise in regulatory costs. Miiller warned that rising expenses make farming increasingly unviable, while Isom stressed that California growers face an unlevel playing field. The coalition, representing 32 agricultural organizations, is requesting $600 million annually for five years to aid farmers through the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund.

Douglass urged collaboration among farmers, regulators, and policymakers to create a more sustainable agricultural future.
