The Almond Board of California has raised concerns over a troubling rise in honey bee colony losses as the 2025 almond pollination season approaches. Reports from Project Apis m. and several industry groups indicate that average colony losses now exceed 50%, with some beekeeping operations experiencing losses as high as 100% in the past year. These alarming figures are reminiscent of past Colony Collapse Disorder events and could severely disrupt pollination services, ultimately affecting food production.

In response, key stakeholders in the beekeeping and agricultural communities are collaborating to thoroughly assess the scope of the crisis. Efforts include gathering detailed data, analyzing colony samples, and mobilizing resources to provide much-needed support to beekeepers. Organizations such as Project Apis m., the American Beekeeping Federation, the American Honey Producers Association, and Adee Honey Farms are at the forefront of this investigation.
