The Idaho Farm Bureau Federation put out a fun, entertaining and informative video on one of Idaho's hardiest crops sugar beets. I'm going to share the audio with you. I think you'll enjoy it. Speaker2: Idaho is one of the nation's leading producers of sugar beets. Last year, sugar beets became the fifth largest commodity in all of Idaho. Idaho's sugar industry produces around 5000 to 7000 jobs every year. Sugar beets are stored in large quantities outside until they are ready to be brought to the factory to be processed. After being washed, sugar beets are then shredded and cut into smaller portions, where they are then cooked in large vats separating the liquid from the beet. The dry beet is then turned into cattle feed. The liquid is refined and then turned into granulated sugar. Did you know that sugar is added to over 60% of our food? So the next time you are eating something savory and sweet, remember it could have come from an Idaho sugar beet.
