Congressional Priorities Pt 1
From the Ag Information Network, I’m Bob Larson. As the clock in the lame duck session of Congress ticks away, priorities for the agricultural industry don’t appear to be at the top of the list.U.S. Representative Dan Newhouse says it’s becoming more and more obvious that ag’s biggest priority, a new Farm Bill, will NOT be the industry’s Christmas present, this year anyway …
NEWHOUSE … “We are looking at another extension of the Farm Bill. It will be, probably be attached to a continuing resolution. And so, that’s my guess right now. You know, miracles could happen, but I believe that that’s what’s being talked about and that’s likely to happen.”
But Newhouse says first things first, we must get a new Farm
Bill done, and it needs to happen sooner than later …
NEWHOUSE … “The new extension would expire on September 30th of 2025. I hope we don’t wait until August
30th to address the Farm Bill. We should get this done sooner and with a Republican Senate and House, I think that there’s a bigger chance of us coming together on a final package that we could send to the President.”
Tune in tomorrow for more on another big issue that Newhouse says would undoubtedly impact agriculture and needs to be addressed, the threat of more tariffs.
