Cattle Market Volatility Continues

“You're hearing a little more in terms of heifer retention this year than you did last year. The feeder cattle market has been just an absolute nightmare here. Over the course of the last couple of months, we are back close to recent highs, but the volatility in that market has made it a little difficult for, I think, both the feedlot operator as well as the rancher to try to make marketing decisions and but the the cheaper feed is definitely working in their favor, and I think that's something that's going to be with them for A couple of years here, where they maybe have increased chances for profitability with their operations.”
Once again, that was Bryan Irey, Crossroads Co-Op regional manager. As he mentioned yesterday, when it's all said and done, he anticipates a one and a quarter percent interest rate cut by the end of the year, which would be good for both agriculture and the economy as a whole, and of course, that includes consumers.
