Kansas, California, and the Farm Bill
The Farm Bill remains a priority for congress as its deadline for renewal approaches. Members of the House Ag Committee visited California to talk with producers earlier this year. House Ag Committee member from Kansas, Representative Tracey Mann joins us.“I got elected in 2020, so I started in January of 2021, and since then I've been hyper focused on this farm bill. Farm bills are five year build, and our current farm bill expires September 30th. I…worked really hard to get on the House Agriculture Committee. My district in Kansas is one of the largest ag producing districts in the country. So I'm on the House Ag Committee and within that this year I get to chair the Livestock, Dairy and Poultry subcommittee.”
“I wanted to get to know California agriculture. So I've been there a couple times talking to producers, mostly been in the Sacramento area, been in Sacramento, been in Yuba City and met with rice producers there in California. Met with ag lenders, met with California Farm Bureau, other stakeholders, toured a peach orchard, which I appreciated, and some of the nut growing areas as well. I really enjoyed my time there and look forward to more time in California moving forward.”
