USTR Trade Talks in the Netherlands and U.S. Beef Exports Down

**Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Alexis Taylor will lead USDA’s first-ever regional agribusiness trade mission to the Netherlands next week.
Taylor will head a diverse delegation of more than 50 business, trade associations and state government leaders seeking to grow U.S. agricultural exports to the Netherlands, Scandinavia, and beyond.
Taylor says, as the largest seaport in all of Europe, the Netherlands is the gateway to the European Union.
**USDA’s Economic Research Service estimates 21-million metric tons of wheat, about half of the wheat grown in the U.S., was shipped out of U.S. ports in 2022.

However, non-tariff trade barriers could push The Philippines and Japan out of the top three, according to the U.S Trade Representative’s 2023 Foreign Trade Barriers report.

**U.S. beef exports totaled 105,057 mt in February, down 3% from a year ago, while export value dropped 16% to $757.8 million.
For the first two months of the year, exports were down 9% from last year’s large volume to just under 206,000 metric tons, while export value dipped 24%.
Through February, beef exports trended significantly higher year-over-year to Mexico, the Caribbean, the European Union and South Africa.
