05/17/06 Washington Wine Expo (Pt.1)

Washington Wine Expo. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report. Last week the Washington Wine Commission played host to an international group of wine industry people. Robin Pollard is the Executive Director of the Wine Commission. POLLARD: First of all we had about 65 guests from around the world in Washington's wine country. We were sharing with them the incredible wine product that we have available for export as well as to actually get them out into the vineyards so that they could get a full picture of Washington's wine industry. We started off in Seattle and worked our way over the mountains and spent the bulk of the week based out of the Tri-Cities and then reaching out to the various wine regions in Eastern Washington. We had representatives from more than 20 countries. A good showing from Asia and Europe and then we had some delegates from the Caribbean which was a first for our expo. The Washington Wine Commission is responsible for the promotion and development of the Washington wine industry, representing the state`s 360+ wineries and 30,000+ vineyard acres. Tomorrow, more on the Washington Wine Expo. That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Northwest Ag Information Network.
