04/14/06 CRP deadline extended for two weeks

Idaho ag producers now have additional time to re-enroll or extend their Conservation Reserve Program contracts that expire in September, 2007. Today's deadline has been extended for two weeks on those '07 contracts. Wayne Hammon is the Idaho state Farm Service Agency director. HAMMON "If you've got land enrolled in CRP or if you've got some land you're farming that you think would be good CRP parcel now is the time to act on that. Come in an see us. We'll go through your record and make sure everything is done and if its new land get you an application in." A Kansas congressman asked USDA for the two week deadline extension to give producers in his state more time to digest last minute rule clarifications. As Hammon says, get in contact with your local FSA to extend or re-enroll but the deadline is now April 28th. That's also the deadline for general signup. Producers whose CRP contracts expire in 2008 through 2010 should have received letters telling them about re-enrollment. HAMMON "But if they've got that letter in hand its probably worth their while to just go ahead and come in and see their FSA office. The deadline for the 2008-2010 contracts is June 30th.
