04/17/06 NRCS puts out `help wanted` sign

The Natural Resources Conservation Service is advertising job openings for applicants 40 or older. Assistant state conservationist for management Susan Tharp says this new pilot program is aimed at recruiting experienced workers for part time employment in 16 different Idaho locations. THARP "We have different positions at different locations. Some of the positions are more clerical, some are more technical and a few are professional. We've already filled six. We have a total of 22. We're one of the highest states in the nation to actually have these positions. So we have 22 total, we've already filled six and we now have 16 left." Tharp says NRCS is struggling to keep up with the workload especially trying to help private landowners implement their conservation practices. The salary payments for the temporary positions do not impact existing retirement annuity income that participants may receive. The applicants may also qualify for health insurance and other benefits. The NRCS offices with position openings are in Bonners Ferry, Emmett, Coeur d'Alene, Twin Falls, Burley, Driggs, St. Anthony, Moscow, Orofino, Weiser, Nezperce, Rigby, Marsing, Boise, Montpelier and Blackfoot.
