When Distynct founder BJ Brugman decided he wanted to bring technology to pork producers, he had big plans for the latest in cutting edge products. But in talking to customers, he discovered that many of their problems could be solved with low cost sensors if they could just get connectivity.

Brugman… “We developed something advanced and then backed all the way up and said, okay, there's a more foundational need, that is network connectivity, a gateway to connect these devices. And then those conversations with producers sort of shifted around them saying, okay, Hey, so if we have connectivity, can you help me answer these basic questions in the barn first? Like, what is my manure pit level? What's the temperature? What's the humidity? What's been the water consumption? Is their feed present in my bin? Just like really basic questions that now that we have connectivity in a way to connect this IOT hardware, we can start answering. And the cool part we found too, is the hardware that we're using to answer these questions is really, really affordable.”

Distynct offers a gateway that allows hog producers to connect unlimited amounts of sensors for real time monitoring. This allows for a platform that’s easy to deploy, can scale to every aspect of the operation, improves biosecurity, and ultimately, saves growers time.

Often the best solutions come from understanding the problem first, then deciding if the latest technology is necessarily the right way to go.
