Coming out of a difficult 2020, Colorado Agriculture leaders are taking a look at what they learned and making a few predictions about what those lessons mean for the future.

An agriculture symposium hosted by the Department of Agriculture’s Colorado Proud division is set for December 3rd at noon.

Danielle Trotta, Business Development Specialist

Trotta: “We’re very excited about this that we’re still able to do this virtually. Commissioner Kate will definitely be moderating the whole event. We’re basically looking at the iconic times we’re living in and how all of these big events that happened in 2020 and how they’re shaping the future. Ane we’re looking at it for the better and dhow the positivity, how these are unprecedented grimes. We don’t have a guidebook of how this went before. So we’re just building our agricultural future together and farmers and ranchers play a huge part in that.”

Former Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, now president and CEO, of the U.S. Dairy Export Council; and Board Director of Feeding America will discuss the status of the U.S. ag economy and size up Colorado ag relative to other states. He’s also expected to talk about environmental considerations.

The Environmental Protection Agency’s Virginia Till will discuss food waste reduction strategies and the EPA’s collaboration with agriculture.

CSU Professor Dawn Thilmany will bring her economic ag outlook and projections for labor challenges

Governor Jared Polis will deliver the symposium keynote speech on lessons learned in 2020 and futureproofing for 2021. RSVP through the Department of Ag Website.
