New Canadian Produce Requirements and U.S. Pork In Hong Kong

**Most companies supplying fresh produce to Canada will soon be subject to new requirements under the Safe Food for Canadians regulations.
The Fruit and Vegetable Dispute Resolution Corporation says the requirements, that go into effect January 15th, include preventive controls, and preventive control plans and
traceability.
According to thepacker.com, those requirements include lot code labeling of consumer-prepackaged fresh fruits or vegetables.

**A decline in Hong Kong’s fresh pork supply due to African swine fever is creating new opportunities for the U.S. pork industry.
Thanks to funding from the National Pork Board and the USDA Market Access Program, the U.S. Meat Export Federation recently announced plans to fill Hong Kong’s growing fresh pork supply gap with chilled pork.
USMEF vice president, Joel Haggard says more than 100 supermarkets in Hong Kong are now selling U.S. chilled pork.
**For the seventh straight year, Stemilt, Hansen Fruit, and their employees granted holiday wishes to 170 kids in foster care and low-income households in the Wenatchee and Yakima areas.
In Wenatchee, Stemilt provided gifts for children under the care of Washington’s Department of Youth and Family Services, Foster First, or Fostering Solutions. In Yakima, Hansen Fruit gave to children of Barge Lincoln Elementary and Foster First.
Gifts range from bikes and toys, to clothes and other essentials.
