Wildfire Bill Pt 2
I'm Bob Larson. We told you yesterday about a bipartisan bill that could provide more than a half-billion dollars to fight wildfires and perform forest management duties to reduce the severity of the fires.Representative Dan Newhouse was one of 32 Congress members who signed a letter to the Office of Management and Budget, that got a thumbs-up from the Trump Administration in less than four hours ...
DAN NEWHOUSE ... "I appreciate the support from the Administration in accepting our ideas and our requests for relief from these wildfires that are affecting our communities. I'm also encouraged that they agree that we need to make much-needed improvements in forest management and wildfire prevention. So, this is an important step and one that I think will really help."
Newhouse says fires are going to happen, it's part of nature ...
DAN NEWHOUSE ... "But, to have the overgrown forest situations that we have and the diseased trees that are dead and dying and just prone to burning, the kinds of situations that we have in our forests, the conditions I guess that we have in our forests now, are dire as they are literally kindly waiting to go up in smoke. And so, we're trying to address both in this bill."
In a response to the Administration's adoption of the forest management and wildfire disaster relief packages, the group says it's now time for Congress to show real leadership and put House Resolution 2936 on the President's desk.
