Vilsack Leaves Early and WOTUS Challenge
From the Ag Information Network, I'm Bob Larson with your Agribusiness Update.Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack left office Friday, a week ahead of President Obama. A spokesman for President-elect Trump said a nominee to succeed Vilsack would be named "some time soon."
As Agri-Pulse reported, Vilsack will become president and CEO of the U.S. Dairy Export Council.
Michael Scuse, who has been undersecretary for farm and foreign agricultural services, will be acting secretary.
Vilsack's post is the sole remaining cabinet position for which Trump hasn't named a nominee.
The Supreme Court will decide whether the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals was right to assert jurisdiction over legal challenges to the "Waters of the U.S." rule.
The court decided Friday to grant a petition seeking review of the 6th Circuit's fractured decision, in which that court narrowly determined that it should adjudicate the numerous WOTUS challenges.
The National Association of Manufacturers filed the petition in September challenging that decision.
