I’m Susan Allen Tami Stubbs head up the New “Farm Smart “ program launched by the Pacific Northwest Direct Seed Association, and she’s here to recruit growers.

STUBBS: Farm Smart is a sustainable agriculture certification, it’s a brand new program that was launched early this year by the Pacific Northwest Direct Seed Association. The premise of the program is that certified producers need to meet the criteria for six major initiatives those are water quality, air quality, soil health, wildlife habitat, energy conservation and economic viability.

This summer the Washington State Department of Ecology and the Pacific Northwest Direct Seed Association finalized an agreement that provides regulatory assurance to producers who have met the criteria to become Farm Smart Certified. An addition to those letters of regulatory assurance from the DOE Farm Smart producers are eligible to get rebates from Agroliquid fertilizer company, and the PNDSA is working to occur additional benefits.

How many producers have signed up?

STUBBS: Currently 14 producers have become Farm SmartCertified now that harvest is over and seeding wraps up we are going out and certifying more producer. If anyone is interested in receiving more information they can contact the Pacific Northwest Direct Seed Association or they can contact the Palouse Conservation District. Again that was Tami Stubbs Tami Stubbs
