Team Beef Promotes Beef to Runners

Each state’s Beef Commission or Council has a Team Beef program which is a promotional program to demonstrate to other athletes that beef provides the nutrition and energy necessary to get you through a racing event. Ione, Oregon, resident and Montana’s Running Ranchers relay team member Ed Rollins joined the group about a year ago. He has participated in several competitive runs. This fall the 12-team members will be headed to Hawaii to run in the Ragnar Relay 200 mile race. Rollins says
Rollins: “The Ragnar Relays are just a perfect venue for the message we are trying to deliver. A bunch of call them fitness addicts or adventure addicts generally that community has a lot of press for vegan diets plant-based nutrition — they are a vocal minority. On our races it really seems like its an opportunity to educate and inform. So much of our country believes that the food comes from the grocery store. Telling the story and humanizing the industry is one of the biggest benefits — in my mind — in the message we get to deliver.”
Rollins says he really enjoys the camaraderie of participating in Team Beef. He continues
Rollins: “Not only are we all runners and enjoy running but we are also deeply involved in the industry in one way or another.”
If you are involved in beef industry and also enjoy running — you might want to consider applying to your state’s beef council or commission for a spot on Team Beef.
