From the USDA Market News Office in Greeley here is Heath Dewey with last week’s state hay report
Dewey: “Compared to last week, prices were steady to firm on inactive trade. The NASS Crop Progress pasture and range conditions for the week ending May 1, 2016, were 7 percent very poor, 12 percent poor, 33 percent fair, 41 percent good and 7 percent excellent. According to the US Drought Monitor, Southeast Colorado is no longer in the D-1 drought category and the state’s D-0 category has been reduced to 6.95 percent. In Northeast Colorado areas alfalfa large square trades were utility $67 FOB or $77 delivered. Grass small square trades were premium $200 per ton FOB or $6 a bale, utility $133 FOB or $4 per bale. In the southeast Colorado areas alfalfa large square trades were good $130 to $140 FOB. Sorghum-Sedan round bales were good $82 FOB. In Southwest Colorado areas large alfalfa squares trades were good $120 FOB and damaged utility $65 FOB. Small grass squares trades were premium $215 per ton FOB or $7 per bale and retail $277 per ton FOB or $9 per bale. There were no reported quotes available for the San Luis Valley and the mountains in Northeast Colorado areas.”
