CO Farm Bureau Stance on Dismissal of Gun Control Lawsuit

Last month a federal appeals court ordered a lower court to dismiss a lawsuit challenging gun control laws, much to the disappointment of many within in the natural resources community. The dismissal was due to the plaintiffs not demonstrating that they would be personally harmed by the laws. However, Colorado Farm Bureau President Don Shawcroft says
Shawcroft: “If it not difficult to believe there are some who have in fact transferred a firearm from themselves to another person without a background check as required — even though that person maybe an employee or friend, an associate in some other manner — it ends up being longer than the law allows. In fact when the firearm was transferred back, there was probably not a background check redone on the person receiving the firearm — even though it was originally their firearm. Those kind of things definitely we understand could be happening out there in the country and not be discovered thereby not being prosecuted.”
Shawcroft continues
Shawcroft: “We are hopefully that we are able to continue to challenge this law. We have learned from what has happened thus far. We are going to see what we can do to come up with a case that the courts will hear. We certainly hope in fact, that it will in fact be declared unconstitutional and we will be able to eliminate that law in the state of Colorado.”
