Wine Hall of Fame

Wine Hall of Fame. I'm Greg Martin with Washington Ag Today.

The 2016 inductee into the Legends of Washington Wine Hall of Fame has been announced. April Reddout with the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center says that WSU food scientist Dr. Charles Nagel has been selected as the 2016 inductee into the Legends of Washington Wine Hall of Fame.

CAMERON: I think what's exciting about Dr. Nagel is that he is seen as a colleague of Dr. Clore's a very influential on all that early work that was done t pave the way to make the industry become as big as it is at this point. I know a lot of the people that have been in the industry for 20 and 30 years had the chance to know him and are whole-heartedly supportive of him being inducted as a legend.

Nagel's family will be in attendance to receive the posthumous award during the Legends of Washington Wine gala, August 12th.

CAMERON: It's our annual fund-raiser, we induct the legend into the Hall of Fame. So we'll have a bronze plaque that is presented to be installed on the wall on our patio with the other legends. We have a beautiful dinner with lovely wine and it's a chance for people to tell stories and reminisce and toast to the work that was done and then we have a live auction.

Nagel joined WSU as an assistant professor of horticulture. His early work focused on studying the effect of sugar on the perception of acidity in wines and juices. Dr. Nagel passed away on July 5th, 2007.

And that's Washington Ag Today. I'm Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
