Junior National Hereford Expo

Junior National Hereford Expo

The Junior National Hereford Expo was held in Grand Island, Nebraska recently where more than 800 exhibitors from 39 states exhibited their Hereford cattle. These national junior shows a wonderful place for youth and their families to participate. Not only in showing their cattle but also with 22 other skills contests: like sales presentations and public speaking as well. The 2015 National Hereford Queen Nebraska native Katie Nolles shares more about her role in the Hereford industry
Nolles: “There are seven national shows sponsored by the American Hereford Association I travel to those throughout the year all around the country from Reno, NV to Harrisburg, PA and every where in between. Not only going to the shows but going to sales that are hosted by our breeders. And also speaking to with media or doing public events to advocate for agriculture.”
She gives more about her background in the Hereford business.
Nolles: “I’m an 18-year student from Bassett, Nebraska. I’m a fifth generation rancher and also fifth generation to show Herefords in my family. So it is very unique for me to serve as National Hereford Queen while we are hosting the National Junior show in my home state. I’m very passionate about agriculture and ag education.”
These junior shows are fabulous skill building and memory making events for beef breed association youth. I would encourage any junior of any breed association to consider participating or even just attending at least one national show.
