New Dean of Ag

New Dean of Ag

New Dean of Ag. I’m Greg Martin with Colorado Ag Today.

Colorado State will have a new Dean of Agriculture this coming fall. Beginning July 1, Ajay Menon will take over the post, transitioning from the Dean of Business and Menon says that’s not much of a leap.

MENON: Agriculture for the couple of centuries we have figured out how to produce yet I think we still have a ways to go in terms of finding efficiencies and distribution of goods, managing a farm in ways we can be more profitable. Small farms are small businesses and so therefore knowledge of managing small farms becomes even more important.

Menon admits there will be a learning curve.

MENON: I’ll first and foremost depend on all the good people who have been kind to welcome me to this role and who have far more knowledge about agriculture to at least make me look intelligent! How’s that? But yet there is a rich history, a long legacy in the agriculture field that I must embrace very quickly and ensure that I do no harm. I don’t pretend to be an expert in agriculture.

He says he hopes he can bring something positive to the discipline through his knowledge of business. Menon joined CSU in 1991 as a member of the marketing faculty in the College of Business. During his time in the classroom he was named “Professor of the Year,” and he has served as a consultant for several leading companies in Colorado. Menon was named dean of the business college in July 2002.

And that’s Colorado Ag Today. I’m Greg Martin, thanks for listening on the Ag Information Network of the West.
