FFA Members Go All Out

Last week more than 60,000 FFA students and family were in Louisville, KY for the National FFA Convention and Expo. I was following the activities closely as I knew students on both the Washington and Oregon Ag Issues teams — from Liberty High School and Pendleton High School.
On Friday I checked in with Abby one of the students on the Washington Ag Issues team whose topic was Drones Use in Agriculture. It was her first trip to the FFA National Convention. She shares her impression.
Abby: “Oh I loved it. It was just wonderful because there were so many people that we shared something in common with. Like with other things you go to, you don’ know how to make small talk because you don’t know them. It felt like you knew everyone and they were so nice.”
The Oregon Ag Issues team, unfortunately, was out in the first round of competition. Abby shares the results for Washington team.
Abby: “Well, we made it into the semi-finals and then we lost that round to California — which was a really good team. It was fun and we had good presentations.”
During the general sessions, FFA students heard from inspirational speakers as well as Monsanto, Typson Foods and Elanco CEOs. She says
Abby: “The sessions were just a swarm of blue and gold jackets. There were just people everywhere and they were having a blast. It was really fun!”
She encourages any FFA students who hasn’t yet attended the National Convention to consider attending.
