Blogging Tips

I enjoy bringing some of my favorite ag bloggers to the attention of my listeners. One of my favorite ag bloggers is Darcy Sexson. You can find her blog called Success is Reason Enough at www.sexsoncharolais.com. I asked her to share some tips with those who may be considering beginning a blog.
Sexson: “I think it is important to be true to yourself and write about things that you find interesting. When you do that, an authentic voice is developed out of that. I think it is important to be consistent when you blog. Whether you post once a week, or three times a week, or whatever works well for you — I think it is important to find that consistency. That is more for your readers. If somebody knows that I’m going to post Monday, Wednesday, Friday — they come back and check on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I try to post five days a week — Sunday through Friday. There are days I don’t post but I think it is important to try and keep a little bit of a routine there. I do that for our family, for the most part. But I think for a general readership — I follow probably 20 to 25 blogs and when there is not consistency I think it makes you less interested a little bit. I would say if you are trying to develop a readership or a following consistency is key but it is important to be yourself too.
She says when she began nearly five years ago — she thought it was about how many comments you get or your stats — she says to stick to writing about things that you find important and interesting.
