It won't be long before the 2014 growing season will be upon us and one of the first commodities to get attention will be potatoes. Bayer Crop Science's Mark McCauley says that they try really hard to reach out to growers and answer questions.

McCAULEY: Well a great example of that is our presence at Expo and trying to take our message to the growers. And we hope that growers attending the Potato Expo will stop by the Bayer booth and learn more about our products. But in addition to that we have a strong presence of technical people throughout the potato areas. We have sales people that are well versed in the background of the chemistry and how to use the chemicals correctly. We also have a technical service team that supports our sales team out in the field.

He says they have a field research team that continues to test the products in real-time applications.

McCAULEY:We - on a regular basis are talking to growers, talking to consultants, we're talking to retailers and we're actually investing a significant amount of resources in the next level of the food chain which is the processor. It may be the retailer or it may be the food companies themselves to help them understand what our products do and how our products might help them in delivering the highest quality potatoes or fruits and vegetable to their customers.

The 2014 Potato Expo gets underway on January 8th in San Antonio and I will be on hand.
